Director, Executive Communication

POSITION SUMMARY

 The Director, Executive Communications is responsible for developing content and implementing the CEO’s communications strategy. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the director will be responsible for coordinating communications from and pertaining to the CEO and the Office of the CEO, including CEO appearances and communications. 

Location: Alexandria, Virginia Office (onsite) 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION: 

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level: 

  • Develop and execute CEO communications strategy in collaboration with the Communications team.
  • Manage talking points and content for all CEO staff engagements, including global all-hands and regional events, as well as external appearances.
  • Build briefing documents to prepare the CEO for all meetings with external business contacts, then drafting follow-up messages after meetings.
  • Write and/or edit CEO communications, effectively capturing both her voice and strategic priorities.
  • Archive all presentations, speeches, media, and talking points, for easy accessibility and future use and reference.
  • Partner with the communications team to identify and secure high-value speaking opportunities and enhance CEO’s profile across social platforms.
  • Write and/or edit CEO op-eds and letters from the publisher.
  • Maintain a regular cadence of communications from the CEO to individual staff and teams based on staff and business successes in collaboration with the Communications team.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/REQUIREMENTS

  • 8 - 10+ years of internal and external communications experience.
  • Extremely strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong grasp on global issues, current events and business trends, particularly in news and media.
  • Experience developing original content for C-Suite leaders including speeches, op-eds and social media.
  • Experience working with high-level executives and advising on communications strategy at top levels of business.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent writing and copy editing skills.
  • Reputational risk and crisis management experience.
  • Strong cultural competencies and ability to effectively communicate to a diverse, global audience.
  • Relevant professional samples will be required as part of the interview process.

SALARY STATEMENT

 We have established  a salary range of $100,000 to $125,000 for this position. Specific pay is determined by your experience in that range.  Highly recommend applicants include salary requirements when completing application.
