POSITION SUMMARY (Hybrid, 3 days in office - Alexandria, VA)

United Way Worldwide (UWW) utilizes Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a cloud service provider to deliver multiple capabilities to UWW staff, local United Ways and external stakeholders. UWW hosts several key web assets within its AWS environment. Additionally, UWW has partnered with external consultants to maintain certain applications. 

The applicant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's cloud computing infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of AWS services and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to monitor and optimize UWW's existing AWS infrastructure, as well as design and implement new cloud-based solutions for the organization.  The individual will be responsible for ensuring the security, reliability, and scalability of United Way's cloud infrastructure while providing technical expertise to support the organization's initiatives and goals.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION 

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level: 

  1. Design and implement resilient environments within UWW’s AWS instance.
  2. Maintain documentation for provisioned AWS infrastructure.
  3. Design new architectures to fulfill internal requirements. 
  4. Partner with application owners, support teams and external vendors to troubleshoot issues with AWS infrastructure and plan the launch of new services.
  5. Ensure solutions are delivered in accordance with security best practices and within the guidance of the AWS Well Architected Framework.
  6. Leverage AWS CloudWatch Splunk, and Site24x7 to track performance and availability of UWW applications.
  7. Work with internal stakeholder and external partners to manage UWW’s CI/CD pipelines on GitHub Actions 
  8. Be an active voice in the improvement of cloud native processes and architecture.

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • In depth knowledge of AWS products and offerings such as Elastic Beanstalk, EC2 ALB, Certificate Manager, Route 53, S3, IAM Identity Center, AWS Organizations, and AWS Lambda demonstrated by prior experience. 
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools  (Cloud Formation, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Ansible etc.).
  • Knowledge of AWS native database management solutions such as AWS RDS including MySQL, PostgreSQL,, SQL Server, and Aurora. 
  • A robust background in Linux and Windows server administration, such as bash shell scripting, MySQL, and MS SQL Server.
  • Comfortable in managing infrastructure as code in Terraform.
  • Experience in an Agile environment with committed sprints.
  • An automation first mindset.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Flexibility to work in a hybrid corporate environment.

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Experience configuring Splunk enterprise to ingest logs and create dashboards.
  • AWS Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS Solutions Architect Professional, etc. 
  • Experience modernizing legacy code or applications using Python.

SALARY STATEMENT:

The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $85,000 to $100,000 per year. Salaries are determined by several factors including applicant’s knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical prowess, and effective communication skills to derive actionable insights from complex datasets. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to strategic decision-making processes by harnessing the power of data lake technologies and predictive analytics tools.
