Job Summary:
The Chief Outreach Officer at United Way of the Greater Triangle (UWGT) is a senior leadership position responsible for driving impactful outreach initiatives and developing strategic partnerships to advance the organization's mission to invest in community-driven solutions that advance racial and economic justice. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Chief Outreach Officer will lead, manage and coach a team of direct reports including the Senior Leader of Creative Strategies, Director of Learning and Engagement, and Director of Marketing and Storytelling. This position requires a dynamic and visionary leader with a proven track record of results in outreach, partnership development, marketing, storytelling and community engagement. UWGT raises and deploys resources to nonprofits and communities. This role leads the team that is the connective tissue between funds raised and funds invested. This role strategically amplifies the dynamic stories of our nonprofit partners and convenes constituents to make a deep, lasting impact. Major Responsibilities:
Set vision, goals, direction and strategy for the Outreach Team, a new team in FY24 designed to help amplify our stories and our partners’ stories and convene individuals and organizations in pursuit of our mission:
Conduct a needs assessment across nonprofits and corporate partners
Draft vision for self and team reflective of UWGT strategic plan
Develop SMART, inclusive, equitable goals
Provide strategic clarity, direction and accountability for the Outreach Team
Collaborate with the Director, Community Engagement + Learning to develop and execute on staff development and learning vision, strategy and plan
Support operationalizing our new strategic priorities
Volunteer engagement strategy:
Develop a pipeline of volunteer engagement milestones and an aligned goals and strategy for over 10,000 people and donors and over 200 corporate partners and hundreds of nonprofits.
Inspire a team of people to execute on the strategy and meet ambitious engagement goals
Coach and Develop the Outreach Team:
Hire three open positions on the Outreach Team to compliment 2 seasoned staff members’ skills and strengths and ongoing hiring and staff retention to maximize impact and sustainability
Coach and develop team, support goal development, strategy and accountability across the Outreach Team
Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team culture that works to integrate and eliminate organizational silos and encourage professional growth and development
Set clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations for the team and provide regular feedback and coaching aligned to your leadership brand and our UWGT performance management system and values
Branding, Marketing, and Storytelling:
Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Storytelling to develop compelling messaging and storytelling that effectively communicates United Way's impact and drives engagement
Oversee the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies to promote United Way's programs, events, and initiatives
Ensure brand consistency and alignment across all outreach channels and materials
Community Engagement and Relationship Building:
Represent United Way of the Greater Triangle in external events, forums, and community gatherings to promote the organization's mission and programs
Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, influencers, and key stakeholders to enhance collaboration and support for United Way's initiatives
Identify opportunities for United Way to engage with diverse communities and populations, ensuring inclusivity and equity in outreach efforts
Partnership Development and Management:
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships to leverage resources, expertise, and support for United Way's programs and initiatives
Collaborate with the Senior Leader of Creative Services, Director of Learning and Engagement, and Director of Marketing and Storytelling to develop joint initiatives and campaigns with partner organizations
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships and implement strategies to enhance collaboration and mutual impact

Other Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred
Proven experience (8+ years) in strategic outreach, marketing and storytelling and/or partner engagement
Demonstrated leadership and management experience
Proficiency in using technology and digital platforms for outreach and communication
Salary range is $140,00 - 160,000 along with a generous and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, 401K matching and a flexible work environment.
