United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring for an Associate Director, Initiatives Fundraising to join our team. As an Associate Director, Initiatives Fundraising you will develop and build relationships in the community to address the health and human service needs of the community through United Way Miami.  Focus on fundraising for the various United Way initiatives primarily from donors who can make gifts in excess of $10,000.  Manage the grant writers focused on initiatives fundraising.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work closely with the Center for Excellence and Early Head Start staff teams and lead the annual development efforts.  Ensure that short and long-term fundraising goals and strategies are established and met.  
  • Work closely with the Mission United staff team and lead the annual development efforts.        Ensure that short and long-term fundraising goals and strategies are established and met.  Manage Mission United Advisory Committee volunteers to development efforts and steward those gifts and contributors.
  • Work closely with the United Way Center for Financial Stability staff team and lead the annual development efforts.  Ensure that short and long term fundraising goals sand strategies are established and met.
  • Identify funding opportunities for other existing initiatives through prospecting efforts.
  • Oversee implementation of grant making and grant monitoring processes.
  • Responsible for the supervision of subordinate employees, which includes training, developing, measuring performance, disciplining and directing tasks.        Has authority to hire, transfer, promote, compensate, or terminate subordinate employees or recommend such actions.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPECTATION FOR ALL EMPLOYEES: Support the mission, vision and values of United Way Miami (UWM). When appropriate, participate in various after hours and weekend activities that benefit UWM and the community. Due to the leadership role UWM is called upon to play in the community, particularly during times of crisis, it is the expectation that all UWM staff will be fully engaged in the organization’s crisis plan and response efforts.

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred.

Experience Requirements: Five years of experience in individual fundraising with a track record of closing major gifts in education, human services area preferred.

Technology Requirements: Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, Outlook, Andar (database) and Takes the responsibility to learn & use technology to increase one’s own productivity and keeps technical skills up to date.  Maintains accurate and current data files.

Other Essential Knowledge/Skills: Public speaking skills, sales ability, excellent writing skills, and negotiation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated record of completing tasks. Successful experience in taking a prospect from identification to solicitation. Spanish language not a requirement but helpful. Demonstrates leadership qualities and serves as a role mode by aligning one’s own behavior with the organization’s priorities.  Looks for ways to utilize unique strengths of a diverse workforce to accomplish project goals.  Seeks out broader scope of knowledge.  Takes a systematic effort over a limited period of time to obtain needed and in-depth information.  Independently manages multiple tasks with diverse objectives; sets priorities and determines resource requirements; establishes due date based on management priorities.  Plays a significant role in success of team.  Consistently offers assistance or takes lead with tasks.  Sets a good example and is viewed as a resource.  Takes personal responsibility for helping team achieve results.
