Basic Job Summary:  

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for all accounts receivables areas relating to donor intent and posting within the campaign software. The AS will analyze information, maintain complete and accurate records, assist with routine accounting duties, and provide prompt, courteous responses to inquiries. Provide efficient, reliable support to the finance department, other internal departments, and external parties. 

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Record all deposits and prepare deposit journal entries. 

  • Process all accounts receivable transactions. Manage revenue receipt and check deposits. Create invoices for review and approval. 

  • Research payments to ensure properly applied to correct accounts receivable accounts. 

  • Process high volumes of accounts receivable transactions 

  • Process all credit card payments. 

  • Prepare donor acknowledgment letters for UWA and public campaigns. 

  • Prepare tax receipts for UWA and public campaign donors. 

  • Reconcile accounts receivable accounts. 

  • Assist with various finance projects. 

  • Record and process various grant receivables 

  • Process, images, and archives financial records and donor information and maintains team files. 

  • Participate in United Way staff meetings.  

  • Attend training conferences relating to job responsibilities, as requested.  

  • Exhibit the highest ethical and moral values possible and always maintain confidentiality of donor information.  

  • When requested by Director of Finance, assist other United Way staff with their areas of responsibility.  

  • Work with Director of Finance as requested to support efficient administration of United Way of Acadiana operations.  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education, Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree with course work in accounting preferred 

  • Understanding how to prepare journal entries is preferred 

  • Background working with non-profit accounting preferred 

  • Proficiency in accounts receivable 

  • Understanding of basic accounting (balancing, matching, leaving a good audit trail) 

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook 

  • Problem-solving and staying on task within a targeted timeline.  

  • Functioning independently within established guidelines.  

  • Successfully organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet goals.  

  • Placing a high priority on customer relationships  

  • Assessing and analyzing information and technology needs.  

  • Identifying and implementing strategies for effective management of donor/financial information.  

  • Efficiently and accurately capturing donor/gift information  

  • Balance promoting United Way and collecting key donor/investor information  

  • Good oral and written communication skills.  

Requirements before Hire:  

Proof and maintenance of a valid driver’s license  

Proof and maintenance of Vehicle Insurance  

Must pass a Louisiana State Police Background Check  


  • Minimum of three years' experience in finance/accounts receivable.  Non-profit, issue-based communications preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit operations and impact measurement. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and accessible manner. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities effectively.

Hours of Work: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F
